MOODS
Data informed art

TO VISUALIZE FEELINGS TOWARDS A SPECIFIC TOPIC IN REAL TIME, USING TWITTER AS A PLATFORM OF DATA.

MOODS is a painting machine that visualizes data. The data displays the current mood of a particular topic. First the keyword is chosen, tweets are then filtered to find this topic according to the keyword. After filtering tweets with only the keyword, they are then filtered a second time to display the topic’s mood in real time. To find the mood, hundreds of words are assigned to 6 colors.
Once all this data is gathered from Processing, it communicates to the Arduino how much paint should be used for each mood. For example, if 500 people are happy, 5 drops of purple paint will be used. If 100 people are mad only one drop of red paint will be used.
The paint falls from a tube and drops into a basin of water. To capture the results, a sheet of paper is to placed flat on top of the water’s surface and then gently lifted. The paint is then transferred onto the paper.
