Bio Plastic:
An Anthropogenic Landscape
Plastic is one of the world’s most versatile materials and has become an integral part of human consumption. However, conventional plastic is typically made from petroleum oil and non-renewable resources, creating many environmental concerns. Therefore, the problem with petroleum made plastic is the fact that it is not biodegradable and releases harmful gases into our environment.
Our project focuses on natural ingredients that have biodegradable properties. Our base recipe, a 100ml of water, 30ml of gelatin and 5ml glycerol, creates a transparent plastic.
A vital component of the project is social participation by using common waste items, such as tea, wine fruits and vegetables. Our project focuses on organic waste to create a plastic with qualities like traditional, petroleum made plastic. Our goal Is to engage the community to educate them on the importance of moving towards a greener plastic and how to utilize waste to make it come full circle.
The apparatus is the most important part of this project. It is the instrument to execute the production of the bioplastic and is carefully designed to engage the public. The community is given an opportunity to engage ecologically while simultaneously asserting the importance of cohesive existence with nature.
